hiking at Lake Melakwa 9 miles roundtrip

The large falls where we turned around at a couple of weeks ago. (above)
At the top of the large falls. (above)
We made it to the lake. (below)We found the perfect picnic spot. Across the lake is where the 2 pictures above were taken.

Ok so we finally made it to the lake. It was worth the hike. Our two nieces J and J made the trek with us. It was so cold at the lake but we still sat down for our picnic. A couple of weeks earlier we made it just to the large falls. It was surprising to us that most of the snow was gone reveling wild flowers, new ferns, and baby trees. After 5 1/2 hours and about 9 miles we made it back to the car. We were wiped out. This was our second hike to the lake the first time was back in September of 2002.

We made a pit stop on the way home to Sol Duc hot springs in the Olympic National Park. We hiked about 1.6 miles round trip to the falls. Next time we will have to try the hot tubs.

We went camping out on the Olympic Peninsula near the Pacific Ocean. The top pictures are at Rialto Beach a couple of miles from the camp ground. We lasted one rainy night at the Mora campground. C woke the campground up at 3 and 6 am. He is not quite ready for tent camping. On our way home we drove north and west around the top of Olympic National Park.
